Which is the ultimate self study hypnosis course?

Although my personal preference is to concentrate on self hypnosis and its many benefits, it’s impossible to ignore the self study hypnosis courses now widely available on the internet which are aimed at those wanting to use hypnosis on others. Many claims are made for these, some of them highly dubious, some of them quite possible and practical.

For some people there may be an issue here of whether it’s even right to attempt such things. I can’t make that call because of my direct involvement in the subject but I can say that it is not illegal in any civilized country that I am aware of. It’s also true that hypnosis cannot make people do something that is completely against their nature. Despite what you might hear you cannot hypnotise someone to harm themselves or others. You cannot hypnotise someone to rob a bank.

That’s not saying that you can’t hypnotise someone to do things they might not normally do. We’ve all seen stage hypnotists make people bark like a dog or behave like a monkey – and those things are practical examples of real hypnosis. What has to be taken in to consideration is that the person in question has, to an extent, “pre-hypnotised” themselves just by going to the show in the first place. They are open to the idea of hypnotism and a bit “softened up”, they are more open to hypnotic suggestion than they would normally be – they might not admit it out loud, but they’d quite like to be hypnotized.

There are also those who would like to use hypnotism to effect those around them in personal or business situations. Indeed it could be said that some people already do this – albeit subconsciously. What do I mean? Well have a look around you, at your friends, acquaintances and work colleagues. Are some of them more persuasive than others? Are there some who easily hold the attention of a group? Are there some who dominate meetings – not by being brash or bullying but by calm discussion? These people are certainly using some of the principals of hypnosis. With training, most people could be more effective in situations like these.

But how can you tell which self study hypnosis course is right for you?

A lot will depend on your attitude and what sort of person you are. While I might be slightly put off by claims of “underground methods”, there is certainly a difference between what is accepted by the general public, and the scope and abilities of some hypnotists and hypnosis practices. I might prefer a more methodical, less exaggerated approach where you might like the punchy, hard-hitting style of some hypnosis scripts. Without meaning to be flippant, it’s a bit like the fact that I might like pasta and you prefer grill – I might like beer and you prefer wine – it’s entirely a personal preference thing.

It would be wrong, and frankly a bit presumptuous, to say that a given system or course doesn’t work. There is no doubt that hypnosis works. It is a fact that people can be successful with a self study hypnosis course. It’s also true that some people do not succeed – just like some people can’t get a grip of higher math. It doesn’t make the math wrong.

So in making your choice you can only really be guided by yourself. Read the websites carefully, trying to see through the salesmanship to get to the attitude of the person or people behind the words. It’s not always easy because the writing style of these pages is, not surprisingly, partly based on the powerful persuasive techniques that you would learn on a self study hypnosis course. However, if you read through a couple of times you’ll should certainly get the style of the course being offered and will therefore be able to judge whether it’s for you. It’s important to feel a degree of affinity for the material – that you’re on a similar wavelength as the course provider – or you simply won’t get on.

As a starting point for your search, consider the following which each offer a different approach:
